In large organization, finding coworkers to collaborate with – who work in a related organization or on similar topics to you – can be a difficult problem. For organizations using Microsoft Office, the Office Graph API represents a rich data source to tackle the problem: with internally-accessible data on coworker connections and activities, you can use R to infer “social networks” of coworkers and use graph analyses to identify like-minded colleagues.
In this talk, we will use Power BI to extract data from the Office Graph API, and then pass the data into the igraph package to create an annotated graph of coworker connections. We embed this graph into a Power BI report which can then be filtered and selected using standard tools to provide updated recommendations for collaborators from the R analysis. The demonstration will include all of the necessary R functions to recreate the data using your own Office Graph.
